Interacting spins of defects in solids can be used as stationary qubits, which can form a local node in which quantum information can be processed. Some defects also can meditate interaction between the bounds spins and inherent optical transitions, thus allowing spin-to-photon interface. This quantum interface is a building block for a large scale quantum network, and can be used for quantum communication, and quantum computing. In this presentation, I'll introduce the concept for the spin-to-photon interface in solids and recent progress from color centers in wide band-gap semiconductors such as diamond and silicon carbide.
