Josephson parametric amplifiers (JPAs) provide near-quantum-limited amplification of microwave signals using the nonlinearity of Josephson junctions. In this talk, I will review the basic physics of JPAs, starting from resonator-based JPAs and extending to Josephson traveling-wave parametric amplifiers (JTWPAs). The talk will cover how Josephson nonlinearity leads to parametric amplification and introduce the concepts of wave mixing, phase matching, and dispersion engineering relevant to JTWPAs. Finally, some theoretical aspects of gain ripples and two-pump schemes in JTWPAs will be briefly discussed. | |||

Seungju Han received his B.S. in Physics from Korea University in 2013 and his Ph.D in Physics from the same university in 2024. His doctoral research focused on topological superconductivity. After graduation, he joined the Beijing Computational Science Research Center(CSRC) as a visiting postdoctoral researcher through the Korea-China Young Researchers Exchange Program. Since February 2025, he has continued his research there as a postdoctoral researcher. His research interests include superconductivity, topological superconductors, Josephson diode effects, and Josephson traveling-wave parametric amplifiers.
