This talk provides a pedagogical introduction to topological states of matter such as topological insulators, topological superconductors, and topological semimetals. We start with a simple one-dimensional example, demonstrating how a band inversion gives rise to non-trivial topology. We then discuss how the anti-unitary symmetries such as time reversal symmetry, particle-hole symmetry, and chiral symmetry play the critical role to classify the various topological states of non-interacting systems.<br />
