Hyochul Kim is a principal researcher in Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT). He received his Bachelor in Physics from KAIST, and PhD in Physics from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 2009. At UC Santa Barbara, he studied semiconductor quantum optics in the groups of Prof. Dirk Bouwmeester and Prof. Pierre Petroff. After PhD, he joined the group of Prof. Edo Waks in the University of Maryland at College Park, and worked as an assistant research scientist until 2013. His research at U. of Maryland focused on interactions of semiconductor quantum dots and photons for applications of quantum information. He investigated how to control photons using quantum dots as solid state quantum bits and strongly coupled photonic crystal cavities. In 2013, he joined SAIT, and is currently working as a principal researcher. His main research at SAIT is related to both active and passive photonic devices including quantum dot LEDs, lasers and metaphotonic devices.
